How to Apply NEUWALL - Liquid Wallpaper?

NEUWALL products are easy to prepare and apply, making it one of the easiest interior options for home makeover projects. On this page you'll find extensive instructions, answering such questions as how to plaster a wall, how to repair tearing or fix cracks in plaster walls, and more.

Drywall Surface Preparation

Drywall is currently widely used in the construction of internal partitions. Sheets are fixed with screws, and the joints are aligned using gypsum mixtures. This is a quick and economical way to create any interior solutions.

1. Gluing only joints of drywall sheets is one of the most common mistakes when repairing and applying liquid wallpaper. If the drywall is not primed sufficiently, then there is a chance that traces of joints between the plates will appear. Therefore, it is necessary to coat the entire wall area with a primer, even if the drywall sheets are even and smooth.

2. For best results, we recommend applying NEUWALL primer in 2-3 layers to the entire surface before applying liquid wallpaper, this is especially important for light colors.

Wall In Old Houses

The materials used in the construction of such houses were of rather poor quality or simply outdated. Often it is not generally known what the walls are made of. Their surface is very insidious in that yellow spots and spots can appear on it due to rusty pipes, poor-quality wiring, and other mistakes of builders over decades of use. To avoid stains, carefully protect the walls.

1. First, you need to treat the entire surface with impregnation or a solution of the NEUWALLL proprietary primer. Then apply the original NEUWALLL primer in 2 coats. Pre-apply it in 2-3 small test areas to understand how the primer is laid on the walls.

2. To achieve the ideal result of applying liquid wallpaper, we recommend covering the walls with gypsum mixtures.

Surface With Metal Parts

To prepare any surface for applying liquid wallpaper, it is necessary to degrease it and align it.

1. If there are any metal protruding or flat parts, such as lighting equipment, electrical panels, reinforcing bars, or ducts, they must also be treated with NEUWALL primer.

2. At the same time, do not forget that constant access to electrical nodes is necessary, therefore, we recommend that you do not paint over them and do not cover with a plaster.

Partially Painted Walls

Partial dyeing in bright colors is one of the most popular interior solutions. Applying different shades, you will make the room look more spacious. It is important to prevent the appearance of a smooth color transition (the so-called "waterline") after drying the liquid wallpaper.

1. We recommend priming the surface with NEUWALL in 2 coats and then applying paint to give whiteness.

2. To achieve the ideal result of applying liquid wallpaper, we recommend that you first process the walls with gypsum mixtures.

Wooden Surfaces

Materials such as plywood, fiberboard, and MDF are used locally for certain interior solutions, such as doorways, arches, mezzanines.

1. Liquid wallpaper can be applied on wooden surfaces, making sure that they are not deformed by moisture and are properly fixed. Moreover, it is worth considering that the thinner the sheet, the greater the likelihood of its deformation.

2. To protect such surfaces before applying liquid wallpaper, we recommend using a proprietary NEUWALL primer in 2-3 layers with longitudinal-transverse movements.

Bare Concrete, Plastered Brick Wall

It is difficult to paint bare concrete or plaster with water-based paints. Due to the enormous absorbency of such surfaces, you can even apply 20 coats of paint and not achieve the required whiteness of the surface.

1. In this case, the optimal solution would be to cover the wall with gypsum mixtures, additionally, smooth the surface, and fill the pores with the material. And only then put the Silk Plaster primer in 2 layers. This will avoid the absorption of paint by concrete.

2. If the concrete wall is initially weak, strongly peels off, crumbles, then the use of any materials is difficult since adhesion is practically absent. To achieve the ideal result of applying liquid wallpaper, we recommend that you first plaster the walls with special compounds: you must use the standard reinforcing primer of any manufacturer.

Oriented Strand Board (OSB)

Oriented strand board - a multilayer structural material with

glued and pressed wood fiber as the main component.

1. It requires especially careful preparation of the surface, before applying liquid wallpaper we are strongly recommended sheathing the walls with drywall, or buy a ready-made version with sheathing from this material.

2. OSB can be of two types: with a low density for partitions inside the house and with a high density for external decoration due to the high degree of moisture resistance. This type of plate can be used in outdoor decoration. When designing partitions, we recommend using moisture- resistant boards for exterior and interior decoration, as they are more versatile. Such plates should be plastered with gypsum mixtures and painted either with a primer or treated with water-based paint.

IMPORTANT!!

If you need several NEUWALL packages, mix all of them with water at once. Partial mixing of the package is forbidden.

Use only one kneading to cover the whole surface of the wall or ceiling. Don't use two or more different portions of mixture for the same surface.

Prepared mixture should be used within 48 hours of soaking.

Note the importance of keeping right temperature and humidity throughout the period from the beginning of making up the mixture till the end of application. Air temperature in the working space should be no lower than 15 degrees Celsius, the humidity should be not more than 70%.

Keep NEUWALL packages in a dry place with a temperature from 5 to 40 degrees Celsius, away from sunlight. If these conditions are met and the package is sealed, expiration date is not limited.

> Combine NEUWALL With Water

Considering the surface area value, calculate the amount of total mixture needed. It matters because surface of one wall (or ceiling surface) should be completely covered with material from only one kneading. Pour the water into a plastic container and add the contents of the package. The required volume of water is indicated on the package. The temperature of water needed is 20-25 degrees Celsius. Water should be free from sediment and impurities.

> Add Decorative Elements

If desired, add glitters and/or other decorative additives, evenly distributing them within the mixture. All types of glitters and additives are purchased separately.

> Mix Material By Hand or Drill

Mix the material thoroughly by hand to prevent the formation of clots of glue. Some materials need to be stirred using a drill with a mixer nozzle. Read the instructions on the package to find out if using of drill is required for the particular material. Put the soaked mixture in a plastic bag and leave it for 12 hours.

> Apply The NEUWALL Mixture

In small portions spread the prepared material evenly over the entire surface using the plastic trowel. Wait 1-2 hours after application of the mixture and flatten the surface using the trowel. Wet the trowel in the water before use it.

> Apply Varnish If Necessary

The final step is to cover the wall or ceiling with NEUWALL branded varnish in order to increase durability.
